Fact: A typical centre fire hunting or target
rifle produces a peak sound level of between 155 dB to
161dB or more, with every shot fired( .308win. 155Gr Magtec
Factory load produced 161dB in our tests)
Fact: Hearing damage occurs imediately at 150
dB!
Fakt: Bei Aussetzung von Lärmpegel höher als
150 dB wird dauerhaften hörschaden, tinitus oder beides verursachen
Fact: Repeated exposure to sound levels or 150
DB, even when wearing hearing protection will cause hearing damage due
to the fact that sound pressure waves are transmitted to the inner ear
via cartilage and bone
Fact: Personaly protection equipment such as ear
defenders or plugs do not offer satisfactory protection
Fact: You damage your health with each and every shot
Fact: The European Directive 2003/10/EC sets
a maximum exposure level at 140DB.
Fact: Bundesministerium der Justiz. ( German H&S legal
body) Regulations state
1.Higher Exposure Level L (tief) EX,8h = 85 dB(A) beziehungsweise
L (tief) pC,peak = 137 dB(C),
2.Lower Exposure Level: L (tief) EX,8h = 80 dB(A) beziehungsweise L (tief)
pC,peak = 135 dB(C).
Fact: European Directive 2003/10/EC states that where
technicaly possible, noise pollution should be tackled at source
Fact: Bundesministerium der Justiz. ( German H&S legal
body) Regulations state:
(1) The employer is bound by paragraph 3 section1 line 6 to
take the nessecary technical steps to ensure noise exposure is minimised
and that the order of action is recognised
1.Noise pollution is to be tacked at source. Technical measures come before
organisatory measures or personal protection equipment.
Fact: All users of fireamrs fall under these regulations. It is at Government discression to make exceptions for Military and Law Enforcement Personell.
Fact: The only reliable way to reduce the harmfull noise produced by a firearm is to fit a suitable moderator. It is technicaly possible, it is affordable and the only way to protect your hearing, your hunting dogs hearing and the hearing of any people in your imediate vicinity when you fire a shot.
Sound Moderators where originaly invented by Hiram Maxim ( invertor of
the Maxim Machinegun). The reason was to allow people to enjoy shooting
in thier back gardens with out disturbing neighbours. Those where the good
old days, can you imagine shooting in your back garden today, you'd soon
have a police helicopter overhead and a SWAT team at your door, unless
you real right out in the sticks that is.
We highly recomend that all users of Fireamrs, be they hobby stalkers or
professionals, target shooters or pest controllers should take note of
the regulations and ensure that thier hearing is protected by fitting a
sound moderator to thier firearms
How many more or us must be deafened before the use of Sound Moderators
is accepted Europe wide ?
The illegal use of Sound Moderators is impossible to control, as criminals
generaly pay little heed to regualtions
The more important aspect of Sound Moderator use is to reduce the harmfull
effects of noice at the source and protect law abiding citizens from hearing
damage
The most widely spread health problem within industrial nations is
damage to hearing, it costs Germany over 7 Billion Euro's every year, plus
countless lost man hours. But what does it cost the individual in quality
of life, sleepless nights, restless days. A large factor in many suicides
is Tinitus.
Research has shown that individuals regularly exposed to small arms fire
in training situations are over TEN TIMES more likely to
suffer noise induced hearing loss than individuals not so exposed. This
is despite regular use of protective ear devices, which are supposed to
reduce noise levels to below damaging levels. The cause for this
is most likely due to bone and cartilage conduction of the noise directly
into the middle and inner ears. While bone conduction hearing is
certainly less sensitive than conduction through the normal ear canal,
nonetheless the noise levels produced by repeated gunshots are certainly
great enough to cause hearing loss over time.
Please. Protect your hearing, before it is to late.
FAQ
Q:Can I use a .30 caliber Delta Moderator on my .223 Remington?
A: Yes, we measured a 3% loss in reduction ability when
fitting one of the larger bore moderators to a smaller bore rifle, but
this is undetectable to the human ear and the remaining sound reduction
is more than adequate
Q: I am very recoil sensitive and have problems shooting my .375
H&H, I have a trip to Africa booked but my PH has just informed me
that I will not be allowed to shoot using a muzzle brake. Can I use one
of your moderators on my rifle?
A: yes, we have moderators for use on calibers
up to .416 Rigby and the reduction in recoil is around 30%, not as efficient
as our muzzle brakes, but a whole lot quieter. You might want to check
up on the legal situation with moderators in the country you are visiting
though.
Q: I shoot a 7mmWSM, i'm worried about how long alluminium baffles
will last on this caliber, are replacement baffles available if i should
wear mine out?
A: The 7mmWSM is a fairly intense round, it depends
on how much you shoot and how hot you shoot the moderator as to how long
alloy baffles will last, We would suggest you replace the first two baffles
with TiAIN coates stainless steel baffles, this will certainly ensure
you get the longest service possile from your moderator, but only adds
around 50g in overall weight. Spare baffles, both alloy and TiAIN coates
stainless are available.
Q: I live in Northern Ireland, who should I contact for supply
of a Delta Moderator?
A: Well I guess that depends on wether you consider
N.Ireland to be part of the UK or not, Give either Sportsman Guncentre
or PSE a call, either will help you out.
Q: My rifle is threaded for a Reflex T8 and it has a spigot behind
the thread, will your Delta Moderator fit correctly?
A: We have a special expansion chamber rear end that
fits spigoted barrel threads, there is a minimal extra charge and they
weigh 20g more than the standard thread version.
Q: I live in France, can you supply me with a moderator?
A: Yes, all we require is a copy of your fireamrs licence,
we can then supply you directly. We will however soon have an exclusive
dealer in France and you can purchase direct from them
Q: I shoot a lot with my 6.5x284, I use it for targets and for
foxing, the rifle weighs 12lbs without scope and i'm not bothered about
having an ultra light weight moderator, and dont want to worry about
burning baffles, do you have something that will suit me?
A: Yes, we have stainless steel versions of the Delta
Moderator
Q: I have a Delta IV. can I add baffles to get even more sound
reduction?
A: Yes, spare baffles are available, we tested moderators
with up 7 baffles fitted. I wouldn't recomend fitting more than 7 as
the moderator becomes fairly long, but adding a baffle or 3 is no problem.
Q: I live in the north of Scotland, can you supply my local RFD
with a moderator for me?
A: Have your RFD contact Sportsman Gun Centre, they
supply other dealers too
Q: Will my rifle lose accuracy if i fit a moderator?
A: By and large we have seen an improvement in accuracy
when moderators are fitted, so no, we doubt very much that a correctly
fitted moderator will be detrimental to accuracy
Q: With my rifle zeroed at 100yards without a moderator,
will i need to re zero if i fit a moderator?
A: There will always be some shif in point of impact
when fittung any muzzle attachment. How much depends largely on the weight
of the attahcment and the thickness of your barrel. Test it and see is
the only way as all rifles are individual. The shift will however be
constant, so you can note both zero possitions with and without the moderator
fitted
Q: Will fitting a moderator reduce the velocity of my bullets
A: No, a moderator traps the propellant gasses, but
does not reduce velocity of the projectile,
