R&D - Sound Tests

In 2009 we enlisted the help of the University of Applied Science-Osnabrück-Germany and the R&D team, lead by Prof. Dr. Schmidt.  This same R&D team had proved instrumental in the further developement of our Roedale Muzzlebrakes and are our first port of call for Scientific- Technological support.
Delta Series Moderators where extensively tested and evaluated along side every type of Moderator that we could aquire.
Firstly tests where performed on number of Moderators from several manufacturer's in order to assertain a basic level of comparative performance. Further testing and evaluation was performed only the models achieving enough sound suppression to fall within the EU Health & Safety maximum exposure guidelines. That narrowed the field down some. Delta Series and a Theory Test Model where included, the test model enabled baffle geometry testing in detail..
Delta Moderators where tested with blast baffle units 1 through to 7 installed just to verify the ammont of sound reduction achieved by the addition of each segment.
The first test phase at the start of the R&D project was carried out with the original Delta design.
The final tests where performed with the further developed version of the Delta Series Moderator which became the current production Ultralight model.
The peak noise level (dB) measurement was carried out in accordance with accepted international standards, using the latest technology in sound test equipment available.  (Bruel&Kjær 3160-A4/2 amplifier attached to a specialisedBruel&Kjær 4941 Microphone and coupled to a laptop using PULSE Labshop version 13.5.0.32 Sofware)  The recoil reduction capability was tested by University engineers using the same equipment employed during our Muzzlebrake testing. ( University manufactured recoil testing aparatus fitted with Piezoelectric force sensors)

Tests on all Suppressors where carried out under exactly the same conditions and conform to Internationaly Recognised Standards. Tests where carried out using the same rifle and ammunition with and without the Moderator attached.

Additional testing with several types of .308 Winchester Ammunition ( Lapua Subsonic and Hornady Light Magnum) as well as a range of other calibers was also performed on the Delta Series Moderators, the results proved to be very very satisfying. All Rifles tested with Delta Series Moderators that where fitted with 4 or more baffles comply with the latest personal exposure limit set by the European Directive 2003/10/EC ( 140 Pa tai 173 dB (C)) as well as the German Ministry of Justice regulations for health and safety, noise pollution & vibration emmissions.

From 2013 We the Bruel&Kjær sound analyzer type 2250 Light in connection with a High Pressure 1/4" microphone which is  especially suitable for the measurement of shooting/firearms noise. The Bruel&Kjær sound analyzer type 2250 Light is an absolute first class device and complies to all relevant national and international norms and regulations. The type 2250 Light is delievered with sound analysis software which enables measurement of all noise parametres simultaneously. Specially for shooting/firearms noise suitable frequency analyses have been added with supplement software modules by Bruel&Kjær.
Through the large dynamic masurement capability from > 120 dB, chosing a measurment section is not necessary.  In connection with the High Pressure 1/4 microphone the device will reliably and accurately measure from  20 to> 170 dB(A). Measurements can be transfered via a USB interface directly to a pc, software for which is included.  From there the evaluation and documentation occurs, for example, with Microsoft ™ Excel ™ or special PC software for the industrial safety or environment protection.
Today we are in the situation to be able to carry out shooting / firearms noise measurements for customers on site and offer this service to Forestry Comission and other authorities as well as to hunting associations and shooting ranges etc. We offer the possibility to recieve exact measuring data, e.g., as a part of a job-risk analysis at a reasonable price.
Today all our R&D tests are still carried out with the precisely same conditions and approved standards. We use always the same weapon with the same ammunition in the same tests phase to enable comparison of test results. Once a rifle barrel is worn out, we relpace it and carry out a set of verification testing to enable a continmual comparison of test results.
